Try a typeface. Keep the details.

Private beta guide · 0.10.1-beta.1

Use this beta to explore letterforms and test the editor. Start with Inter and work with words you know well.

A 15-minute test

  1. Name the family. Type a short brand name or “Hamburgefontsiv NU&”. Drag Thickness and Width. Look for visible updates while you move the slider.
  2. Edit one letter. Open Edit glyph on a, choose Edit this glyph, and adjust a parameter. Go to the next letter and adjust it. The heading should name the letter being changed. Return to Text to edit the whole font.
  3. Reload. Your words and individual edits should remain. Apply changes to should say Whole font.
  4. Keep a copy. Save preset keeps the design in this browser. Download preset saves the current design as a .typecase.json file, including your words, family parameters and character edits. Download each design you want to keep.
  5. Restore and export. Import the file using the same base typeface. Open Starting point & presets and choose the imported entry. Imports create separate saved entries. Export .OTF becomes available when the full font is ready.

When something looks wrong

Download the affected preset and attach it with a screenshot when you send feedback to the person who invited you. Include the text below. Nothing is submitted automatically.

Saving your work

Browser storage is separate for every browser, address and base typeface. Work on the published site will not appear automatically here. Downloaded presets provide a portable copy. You can keep 20 named presets per base in a browser; a new entry never removes an older one. Saving an existing name updates that preset.

If saving fails, the editor displays a warning. Download your current preset before leaving. Importing a preset adds it to the list without replacing your current design. An existing name gets a numbered copy.

Spacing and kerning

In Edit glyph, drag either side grip or type a spacing value. In Text, place the cursor between letters and press Command/Ctrl + Left or Right. Hold Shift for ten-unit steps. Check repeated pairs, undo/redo, reload, and the exported font in your target application. These edits use 1/1000 em and apply across the family.

What to assess in exported fonts

Exports are static OTF files with the selected alternates baked in. Your glyph spacing and explicit kerning pairs are included. Source automatic kerning, complete OpenType substitutions, mark positioning and hinting are not preserved. Check spacing and accents in the application where you intend to use the font. Extreme shape combinations and custom alternates still need visual review.
